May the 4th be with you: Where to celebrate ‘Star Wars Day’ Wednesday in North Texas

May 4 is known as Star Wars Day among fans of the pop-culture phenomenon, dubbed after the Jedi goodwill phrase “May the force be with you.”

It has been nearly 45 years since the first movie, “A New Hope,” came out on May 25, 1977, yet the franchise continues to have a force-chokehold on fans of all ages.

The American Film Institute ranks the original “Star Wars” at 15 out of its top 100 movies of the last 100 years, and the online database IMDb ranks “Star Wars” and “The Empire Strikes Back” in its top 100.

You may not live in a galaxy far, far away, but there are still ways to celebrate Star Wars Day in North Texas. Here are four places to check out this week.

Holocron Toy Store

If you’re looking to load up on all things “Star Wars” on May 4, look no further than the Holocron Toy Store at 3613 W. Vickery Blvd. in Fort Worth.

This Star Wars-themed store, full of toys, collectibles and other related merchandise, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the store will have a “May the Force Be With You” event from 1-6 p.m. which will celebrate Stars Wars and raise money for the Peter Mayhew Foundation.

The Peter Mayhew Foundation, named after the late actor who played the character Chewbacca, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial assistance to children and adults suffering traumatic events.

During the event on Saturday, Holocron will have food trucks, a raffle for multiple prizes, photo opportunities and a costume contest at 3 p.m. According to an announcement by the store, there will be a $20 gift card prize for a child winner in the costume contest and a $50 gift card for an adult winner.

May the 4th be with you: Star Wars-themed improv show

Dress up as your favorite character for this galactic comedy show in McKinney on Wednesday. The event will be held at The Comedy Arena Main Stage at 305 E. Virginia St. at 7:30 p.m.

General admission seating will be cabaret style, according to event details. Tickets can be purchased online at The Comedy Arena website, around $17 for adults and $12.50 for children ages 12 and younger.

Star Wars Day at Zoli’s Pizza

Jedi and Sith alike need to eat, so grab a bite at Zoli’s Pizza in Fort Worth this Wednesday for the return of a Star Wars-inspired dish.

Zoli’s, located at 3501 Hulen St., is bringing back its Thermal Detonator pizza for Star Wars Day. The Thermal Detonator consists of mozzarella, spicy cherry pepper ricotta, hot soppressata, cherry tomatoes and stuffed jalapeno poppers.

Star Wars Day movie marathon

Palace Arts Center, at 300 S. Main St. in Grapevine, will have a Star Wars marathon, showing the original three movies: “Episode IV: A New Hope,” “Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Episode VI: Return of the Jedi” on Wednesday.

Individual showings are at 1 p.m. for Episode IV, 4 p.m. for Episode V and 7 p.m. for Episode VI. Tickets can be purchased online. General admission is $6 and free for kids under 2 or $15 for a movie bundle to watch all three movies.
