Man suspected of ATM theft in Fort Worth is arrested in Dallas
A man suspected of working with two others to steal an ATM from a Fort Worth convenience store Thursday morning is in custody after a pursuit with Dallas police, officials say.
Dallas police Cpl. DeMarquis Black said investigators are looking into whether the suspects are connected to the roughly 40 ATM thefts and attempted thefts in Dallas this year.
“Our guys are working tirelessly trying to see if they have any connection,” Black said.
The theft in Fort Worth occurred at about 4:45 a.m. at the Circle K at 1225 Oakland Blvd.
Witnesses from across the street told police that a white Chevrolet pickup crashed through the store’s front glass door. Three masked assailants jumped from the pickup, lifted the store’s ATM onto the pickup’s bed, and fled, according to Sgt. Steve Enright, a Fort Worth police spokesman.
Dallas police were notified of the theft and later spotted a vehicle matching the description.
Dallas officers tried to stop the pickup, but the driver fled, leading officers on a chase, police said. The suspects then abandoned the pickup at South Central Expressway and Haven Street and fled on foot.
One was captured nearby. Police had not released his name.
Dallas police say officers recovered the pickup and ATM and are working with Fort Worth police in the investigation.
