What’s being built on West 7th St. near Camp Bowie, and when will traffic lanes reopen?

West 7th Street can be a traffic nightmare, depending on the time of day, but lately the congestion is much worse with construction in the Cultural District closing down lanes.

One of the city’s biggest construction projects is along West 7th near Camp Bowie Boulevard near the Kimbell Art Museum. And it has brought some road closures and detours.

Fort Worth-based Crescent Real Estate LLC broke ground on its mixed-use development in September 2021.

Here’s what will be included in the development:

  • The Crescent Fort Worth, a 200-room luxury hotel that will include a restaurant, rooftop lounge and ballroom/meeting space;
  • 168,000 square feet of office space;
  • A 167-unit luxury apartment complex;
  • The headquarters of Crescent Real Estate, Goff Capitol and Canyon Ranch.

The development is still under construction with an expected completion date of mid-2023. The new complex will be within walking distance of Will Rogers Memorial Center and Dickies Arena.

Fort Worth’s world-class Cultural District deserves a world-class development like this one, Crescent founder John Goff said last year.

Goff hopes that the new luxury hotel can spur an innovative and economic boost to the area, like his Dallas-based hotel did for that city in 1986. The Crescent Fort Worth will help the city create buzz to get people interested in investing a relocating to the city, Goff added.

Mayor Mattie Parker has touted the potential economic benefits of the project.

But until the work is complete, we’ll be dealing with traffic caused by construction.

  • West 7th Street from Barden to Boland streets is reduced to one lane as crews work on the development.
  • On Camp Bowie Boulevard starting from The Great Outdoor Sub Shop to Boland Street, the right side of the westbound lane is closed for construction.
  • Van Cliburn Way between West Seventh Street and Camp Bowie Boulevard is closed completely.

The Star-Telegram reached out Crescent Real Estate LLC for updates on construction but hadn’t heard back as of Friday afternoon. The last update from Crescent on the mid-2023 completion date was announced at the ground breaking ceremony last fall.
