At least one person died in a major crash in which an SUV caught fire on Interstate 20 near McCart Avenue in Fort Worth Tuesday night.

The car wreck occurred around 11 p.m. near the 2300 block of eastbound I-20 near the intersection of McCart Avenue, police said.

“Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles, a passenger vehicle and an SUV,” police said. “Initial on-scene investigation indicated the passenger vehicle struck the SUV from behind but the investigation is ongoing. The SUV was fully engulfed at the time of officers’ arrival.”

Inside the SUV, one person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to nearby hospitals in unknown condition.

The freeway remained fully closed until about 3 a.m. All traffic lanes have reopened.
