US National Table Tennis Championships headed to Fort Worth in July
Fort Worth will host the U.S. National Table Tennis Championships in July, USA Table Tennis and the Fort Worth Sports Commission announced Thursday.
The event is scheduled for July 2-July 7 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The event had previously been in Las Vegas, but USA Table Tennis board member Dan Reynolds said bringing the championship to Fort Worth was a great opportunity to promote the sport in a city with a strong table tennis community.
The best players in North America will be coming to Fort Worth, Reynolds said. There will be 90 events for players at all levels of the sport.
Fort Worth hosted the U.S. Open Championship in 2019.
Jasna Rather, head coach of Texas Weslayan’s multi-championship winning table tennis team, was a big advocate for USA Table Tennis to hold its national championship in Fort Worth.
“She’s done so much for table tennis, and she’s always pushing Fort Worth, so she’s the reason why it’s here,” Reynolds said.
More than 1,200 competitors from all levels of the sport are expected to attend the event, said Bob Jameson, president and CEO of Visit Fort Worth at the organization’s annual breakfast.
“The word is getting out to the sports community that Fort Worth is a great place to host an event,” said Jason Sands, director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission.
