A man’s body was found in a Fort Worth river Tuesday morning, but fire officials said it wasn’t the kayaker who disappeared in the water Saturday.

Firefighters got a call reporting a body in the West Fork of the Trinity about 11 a.m. Tuesday near Gateway Park in east Fort Worth.

Officials said the body, that of a man in his 50s, was taken to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office for identification. Authorities released no other details.

“We’re convinced that it wasn’t the missing kayaker,” fire Lt. Kyle Falkner said Tuesday.

The underwater search for the kayaker was suspended by dive teams Monday. But teams on land and in boats continued Tuesday.

“The water level is down at least five feet in this area,” Falkner said Tuesday, describing the area east of downtown Fort Worth. “So the teams are back out on the water.”

A police helicopter and firefighters in brush trucks also continued the search Tuesday.

The search stretches from River Oaks Boulevard to the east Tarrant County line.

The kayaker fell into the river in west Fort Worth on Saturday morning, fire officials said.

Authorities did not release the man’s name, but area television news reports identified him as Edgar Castro.

Authorities have alerted officials in Irving, Arlington, Euless, Grand Prairie and Dallas, which are downstream from Fort Worth, to be on the lookout.

The victim and another man were kayaking on the West Fork near the Westworth Village-Fort Worth border when they went into the water shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters began searching Saturday morning with a dive team, along with Texas Department of Wildlife game wardens in boats.
