Highway 183 accident in Fort Worth leaves area without electricity
A car crash near the intersection of Calmont at Alta Mere/Highway 183 in Fort Worth left the area without electricity Wednesday afternoon.
A tweet by the Fort Worth Police Department confirmed that a vehicle crashed into a stop light in the area and “took out power to that intersection.”
“A motorist hit a tension line holding one of the electric poles causing it to snap and two poles are leaning and will possibly fall onto power lines at the Calmont and Alta Mere intersection,” police said.
The entire area was closed down as of 3 p.m. All traffic was diverted from the scene.
Police expected repairs in the area to be a “24 hour job,” but electricity was restored as of 3 a.m. Thursday.
“Oncor has now restored power to the intersections of Alta Mere Drive and Calmont Avenue but the red lights are currently flashing in all directions for traffic to stop at all intersections,” police said. “The City’s Transportation and Public Works has been requested to reset the signaling system prior to the morning commuters taking to the road.”
Police did not mention any injuries from the crash.
