Skunk tests positive for rabies in north Fort Worth; residents advised to take caution
A skunk found near Golden Triangle Boulevard and Harmon Road in north Fort Worth has tested positive for rabies, according to city officials.
Animal Care & Control officers were notified after a resident in the area informed the city of a skunk that was acting strange.
Rabies is transmitted through direct contact of saliva from infected mammals.
Animal control officers urge residents in the area to not approach or attempt to handle any free-roaming or domestic pets behaving in an unusual manner. Residents are instead advised to contact the city’s call center at 817-392-1234 to report an incident, according to the city of Fort Worth website.
Residents are also advised to ensure their pets’ vaccinations are updated and consider picking up any dog or cat food and birdseed left outside.
Rabies and other pet vaccinations are available 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday at the Chuck Silcox Animal Shelter located at 4900 Martin Street. Fees range from $5 for rabies to $25 for all vaccinations, according to the website.
