A van driver was killed Thursday night when a Hummer sped through a stop sign and crashed into the side of the van in south Fort Worth, police said.

Officers were called at 8:13 p.m. to the intersection of Lubbock Avenue and Yates Street near McCart Avenue and Interstate 20.

Witnesses said the Hummer was northbound on Lubbock at a “high rate of speed” when it “ran a stop sign” and crashed into the van, which was westbound on Yates, said Officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman.

The van's driver, identified by police as a “Hispanic male in his 40s,” was pronounced dead at the scene. He will be identified after the Tarrant County medical examiner’s offices notifies his family.

Although the Hummer rolled over from the force of the crash, the driver and a passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries, authorities said.

Investigators were working the scene Thursday night to determine if criminal charges would be filed, Segura said.
