Rain possibility back in forecast for soaked North Texas

The weekend may get off to a damp start in North Texas.

Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Thursday with temperatures in the mid-90s, but chances for rain return Friday night and Saturday.

A cold front will arrive Friday, bringing a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Chances for rain will be at 40 percent Saturday.

“We don’t expect any severe storms during the weekend,” said meteorologist Jesse Moore of the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. “We should see about a half-inch of rain.”

North Texas has been soaked in recent weeks, but in some counties near the Red River and in East and Southeast Texas, up to 60 inches of rain has fallen this year.

At Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, the total stood at 34.06 inches Wednesday, compared with 9.52 inches for the same time last year. On average, North Texans see about 19.42 inches of rain by this time, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-90s Friday, but the cold front and rain should cool things down this weekend. Forecasters call for temperatures in the upper 80s Saturday and the lower 90s Sunday.

Showers and thunderstorms will move out by Saturday night, and Sunday should be sunny.

Slight chances for rain return Monday night and Tuesday, according to the weather service.
