Texas Wesleyan offering college information to students this summer

Don’t put off for the fall what you can get done in the summer.

That’s the message education advocates have for high school juniors and seniors this summer. Texas Wesleyan University’s admissions team is expanding a partnership with Fort Worth schools to support Go Centers during June and July at South Hills High School and the Fort Worth Central Library. The centers help students research career and college opportunities.

The summer outreach is the first time a Go Center has been made available during summer school, according to the university. This is also the first time it is being offered at the Central Library. Students can get help from mentors who walk them through college, financial aid and scholarships applications, said Nicole Gillihan, one of several college students trained to staff the centers.

Both Go Centers open June 22 . The South Hills center will be limited to students who are in the campus summer school program. The Central Library center is open to the public during regular library hours. Texas Wesleyan mentors will be working during peak times.

“My job is getting people to where they want to be in college as quickly and smoothly as possible,” said Gillihan, who will mentor at the library Go Center.

Texas Wesleyan provides mentors to several area Go Centers, including Castleberry, O.D. Wyatt, North Crowley and Polytechnic high schools.
