Man killed in attempted Fort Worth store robbery identified

A man shot dead during an attempted armed robbery at a north-side neighborhood store has been identified as a south Fort Worth teenager.

Christian Carvajal, 18, was killed Wednesday afternoon by the owner of Lincoln Grocery, who said Carvajal was holding a shotgun during an attempted robbery, police reported.

Carvajal died of a gunshot to the chest, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office, which listed a south Fort Worth address for Carvajal.

Fort Worth police were still searching Thursday night for two men with Carvajal.

The owner told police that Carvajal and two other men walked into the Lincoln Grocery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday and one of the men demanded money.

The owner said he handed over his wallet, but when he saw one of the men armed with a shotgun, he grabbed his handgun and fired, Sgt. Steve Enright, a police spokesman, said.

He hit Carvajal, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The others ran from the store at 1701 Lincoln Ave. at the corner of Northwest 16th Street, Enright said.

Police reported no new information on the case Thursday.

The phone at Lincoln Grocery was not answered.
