Fort Worth

Find the rain gear, light jacket. Cold front is on the way in North Texas.

Chances are good North Texans will need some rain gear and maybe a light jacket later this week.

But keep the shorts and sandals handy, at least for a little while.

After a warm, sunny Monday, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth is predicting another toasty day Tuesday with highs in the lower 90s.

Then, here comes the rain chances and a cold front that arrives late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

“It will not be a blast of cold air,” said meteorologist Jason Dunn at the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. “But we’re going to have cooler temperatures.”

How cooler the temperatures will be in North Texas will depend on how far south the cold front travels, according to forecasters in the NWS in Fort Worth.

In the Texas Panhandle, record cold temperatures are possible when the cold front arrives Tuesday. There is a chance of sleet and even snow in northwest Panhandle counties, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.

There’s an 80% chance of rain late Tuesday night as the front arrives in North Texas, and an 80% chance of rain on Wednesday.

Tarrant County could see as much as an inch of rain in the next few days while rainfall totals could be higher in counties to the northwest of Fort Worth, according to the NWS in Fort Worth.

No severe weather is the forecast for North Texas.

Morning temperatures will be in the 60s, and the daytime high on Wednesday is expected to be in the upper 70s.

Temperatures are expected to warm into the 80s for the rest of the week with lows in the 60s.

That’s the same temperature pattern for the rest of the week.

Rain chances are in the forecast all week in North Texas.
