Tarrant County Commissioner Devan Allen will undergo abdominal surgery

Tarrant County Commissioner Devan Allen announced that she will undergo major abdominal surgery on July 27.

She said the non-elective surgery is for her “immediate and long-term health” and will require some hospitalization and then weeks of recovery at home.

Allen, who was elected in 2018, said she plans to attend commissioners court meetings virtually by mid-August and then in person once doctors say she can return.

Allen said during Tuesday’s weekly meeting that she will stay in touch with her staff and fellow officials while she’s recovering. “I appreciate your understanding,” she said. “I honestly cannot wait to get back to the bench.”

“We wish you all the best,” County Judge Glen Whitley said after her announcement.

Commissioner Roy Brooks added that “we will be covering you and your family with our prayers.”

Allen represents Precinct 2, which covers southeast Tarrant County and includes Arlington.
