Anti-racism phrase to be painted this weekend on Main Street in downtown Fort Worth
Volunteers plan to paint an anti-racism message on a block of Main Street in downtown Fort Worth this weekend.
“End Racism Now” will be painted in capital letters in the 800 block of Main Street, near the Fort Worth Convention Center, on Friday and Saturday. The location was selected because it is near the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial plaque in General Worth Square, according to a city statement.
Water-based paint will be used for the phrase, and it is intended to be temporary.
A permit to temporarily close the street was issued to Deborah Peoples, the project’s organizer, according to the statement. Peoples is the chairwoman of the Tarrant County Democratic Party.
Main Street will be closed between Eighth and Ninth streets from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Fort Worth artists Letitia and Sedrick Huckaby are leading the design.
