Severe thunderstorms possible overnight as another line is expected in Fort Worth area

The loud windy thunderstorms expected late Monday going into early Tuesday will be similar the ones many endured overnight Monday, according to a forecaster with the Fort Worth office of the National Weather Service.

But be aware that a smattering of pop-up showers, some possibly severe, are expected in North Texas until sunset, said Monique Sellers, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

“Because they will be scattered many of us won’t see any rainfall from these,” Sellers said. “Most everyone will see some rain from the line of storms that will be coming through overnight.”

A line of thunderstorms is expected to form and pass through North Texas after midnight, possibly between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. The main threat will be the high winds, said Jason Dunn, National Weather Service meteorologist.

Flash flooding and hail are also possible with these storms, but the risks for those in the Fort Worth-Dallas area is low, Dunn said.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how this line develops,” Dunn said. “If the line passes over the same areas it passed over last night it may be possible. But these are typically fast moving storms.”

Following the Tuesday morning thunderstorms, skies should be slow to clear, with winds turning out of the north behind a cold front. Tuesday’s highs will make it into the low- to mid-80s for most locations, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
