Several families displaced after fire races through Fort Worth apartment complex

A fire raced through an apartment complex early Wednesday morning, destroying several units, a fire department official said.

No residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze.

About 12 apartments suffered major damage and several families were affected, fire officials said. Red Cross officials were on the scene.

The fire was reported about 1 a.m. in the 1400 block of Vanderbilt St. West, near Eastchase Parkway and Interstate 30 in east Fort Worth.

When they arrived, Fort Worth firefighters found heavy fire in a two-story apartment building.

Firefighters battled the blaze for about 45 minutes before it was under control.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
