Marvin Girouard, ex-CEO of Pier 1 Imports and longtime Fort Worth resident, dies at 80

Marvin J. Girouard, the former CEO of Fort Worth-based company Pier 1 imports, died at age 80 Saturday.

Girouard worked at Pier 1 imports for 32 years. He was CEO from 1998 until his retirement in Feb. 19, 2007, according to a news release from Pier 1 at the time.

Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth confirmed it will hold a private service for Girouard.

Friends of Girouard posted about his death on Facebook on Sunday.

Neal Shields said on Facebook that Girouard was a “great friend and great neighbor.”

“I got a PhD level education from some great conversations with him over garbage cans when we would take out the garage at the same time,” he wrote on Facebook.

Shields said Girouard was a Navy Seal in Vietnam.
