Abducted baby found safe in Fort Worth; mother detained in Amber Alert case
An abducted baby who police say was taken by her mother from a relative was found safe Wednesday morning in a Fort Worth home, River Oaks police said.
Mia Negrete was discovered about 5 a.m. Wednesday, and her mother was detained, River Oaks police said. No other people were reported as detained.
“The baby is fine,” River Oaks Police Chief Christopher Spieldenner told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a Wednesday morning telephone interview.
Just hours before that, an Amber Alert was issued for the 4-month-old baby who police say was kidnapped from a relative’s home in River Oaks.
Mia Negrete had last been seen about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Oxford St. in River Oaks, a Tarrant County city west of Fort Worth.
The baby had been placed at the relative’s home by officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the police chief said. Details of why the baby was staying with a relative were not released on Wednesday.
“Specific details are confidential,” said Marissa Gonzales a spokeswoman with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, in a Wednesday email. “The baby had been staying with a relative the last two weeks during an investigation.”
At some point Tuesday night, Mia’s mother, Summer Davidson, and three other women showed up at the relative’s home in River Oaks, police said.
Davidson and her friend Gemma Flores entered the home and later allowed two other women inside of the residence, River Oaks police said.
The relative was assaulted and Mia was abducted, the police chief said.
Hours later, authorities released photographs of 19-year-old Summer Davidson and 24-year-old Gemma Flores.
Davidson was on crutches with a broken foot with metal pins, authorities said.
No one has been arrested in the case, the police chief said, but an investigation continues.
A charge of injury to an elderly person could be filed in the case, Spieldenner said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call River Oaks police at 817-626-6770.
