Need a pothole fixed in Fort Worth? There’s an app for that
If your street has a light that’s always out or a pothole that’s threatening to swallow your car, there’s an app for that.
The city of Fort Worth launched the MyFW smart phone app back in August and since then it’s become an increasingly popular way for residents to submit complaints about lights, signs, potholes, graffiti and all other manner of troublesome things that city departments can mend.
More than 25,000 service requests have been made through the app, about 7% of the roughly 336,500 inquiries the city has received so far in 2019.
The app for iPhone and Android allows people to report concerns by filling in some basic information and uploading a photo. Residents can also use an interactive map and list to track their request or see what others have submitted.
Users can register or make their request anonymously. As of November about 7,100 people had used the app. More than 5,700 had done so anonymously.
The thousands of people who used the app between August and November may have seen a glitch.
Sometimes a request for service, like a dark street light, would be marked “closed,” but no work had been done. Michelle Gutt, a city spokeswoman, said the problem was twofold. In some cases city employees would accidentally mark a work order closed before the work had been done, but in most cases a software issue caused tickets to be closed early.
The city worked with Motorola to fix the issues and hasn’t received complaints since.
