2 Fort Worth officers hospitalized after foot chase

Two Fort Worth police officers were hospitalized early Tuesday with minor injuries after chasing a suspect on foot.

The incident started about 2:40 a.m. when the officers tried to stop a car for a broken taillight at 2500 E. Lancaster Ave.

A police report says the driver let a woman out, then fled in his car.

Officer Tamara Pena, a police spokeswoman, said in an email that the vehicle pursuit lasted about 2 miles before the driver stopped and hopped out.

The driver was caught as he tried to climb a fence into a yard near Avenue L and Bishop Street.

“The driver made it over the fence as the officers grabbed him,” Pena said in the email. “The driver fell into the yard and broke his left wrist.”

The officers climbed the fence and took the man into custody. Pena said the driver had heroin and cocaine in his possession.

The driver, identified by police as 35-year-old Quentin Fields, was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries and faces drug and evading-detention charges.

Pena said the officers were also taken to the hospital for injuries suffered during the chase and fence-climbing.
