Think it feels unusually cold? Friday’s high temperature was a new record breaker

For the last few weeks, we’ve been dealing with spring-like storms.

But suddenly it feels like March again.

The low temperature at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Friday morning was 50, three degrees short of a record.

But forecasters said a high temperature of 62 degrees this afternoon broke the record for the lowest high temperature on May 10. The record of 63 degrees was set in 1954.

“We technically won’t call it officially til midnight, but right now, it’s 57 at DFW airport, it’s cloudy and sun is going down,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Godwin said.

Rain also returns Friday and Saturday, but rainfall totals are expected to be low enough to not cause any significant flooding.

Temperatures will rebound into the low 70s Saturday and upper 70s on Sunday for Mother’s Day.

In Central and Southeast Texas, heavier rain is expected where flash flood watches extend from Austin to Beaumont through Saturday evening.
