Live in this Fort Worth neighborhood? Boil your water, or you’ll risk getting sick
Residents in part of Fort Worth’s Como neighborhood must boil their water, the city advised Saturday.
Residents living along Farnsworth Avenue between Horne and Prevost streets were told to boil water for cooking and drinking until further notice. Several drinking water samples tested positive for coliform bacteria.
Coliform bacteria live in both the ground and water and include the E. Coli strain of bacteria. No E. Coli was found in water samples in the neighborhood, but city officials are being cautious, water directer Chris Harder said in a statement.
“I want to err on the side of caution,” he said.
Harder said it is rare for the city to experience multiple positive tests for coliform.
The Fort Worth Water Department will provide bottled water to residents on the south and north sides of the 5200 to 5600 blocks of Frarnsworth Avenue. A total of 86 residential lots are impacted
Testing began on Monday after a resident complained about cloudy water. Additional samples tested positive for total coliform throughout the week an the boil water notice was issued Saturday after samples taken Friday again tested positive, the city said.
It takes about 24 hours to receive test results. Officials will notify residents when it is safe to consume the water and boiling is no longer needed.
