Bumbling store thieves almost got away with $3,000 worth of perfume and cologne

Employees at Ulta on East Southlake Boulevard thwarted two thieves last month who were attempting to steal more than $3,000 worth of perfume and cologne.

Police on Thursday asked for help in identifying the suspects, who were caught on store surveillance video. Detectives released the video in the hope that someone will recognize the suspects.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Ulta, 2900 E. Southlake Boulevard.

Two men who witnesses say were between the ages of 18 to 27 walked into the store, grabbed two shopping bags and strolled to the back of the store.

The store manager recognized what was about to happen and called 911. Another employee went to the front door and locked it.

The thieves with their bags loaded walked past a register to the exit.

The video shows the store manager approaching and grabbing one of the bags and struggling with the would-be thief. Another employee grabs the second bag after a tussle with the second suspect.

The thieves relent and then push against the front door a couple of times to get it open, one of them almost falling as they escape.
