Flash flood watch issued in Dallas-Fort Worth with heavy rain already falling

A flash flood watch was issued for the Dallas-Fort Worth area from midnight Friday until Sunday morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain throughout the weekend, according to the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth.

The watch extends throughout north central and northeast Texas along and north of Interstate 20, according to the weather service.

Up to 4 inches of rain was expected to fall between Friday and Saturday night, the weather service forecast.

As of Friday, rain was predicted for the next 12 out of 14 days.

Fort Worth and surrounding areas have already seen deadly flash flooding this year after heavy rain in February and September.

More than 23 of the 38 inches of rain in Dallas-Fort Worth this year occurred in those months alone.

Many residents in Fort Worth, Arlington and Everman have expressed concern about the impacts of new development and how effective stormwater management has been in many North Texas cities.
