AK-47 found in Fort Worth home where man held police at bay for more than five hours

A man who held police at bay for more than five hours Sunday had an AK-47 in the home, but he never fired the weapon, police said Monday.

Police identified the suspect as Jorge Fraire, 32, of Fort Worth who was taken into custody Sunday afternoon in the 1400 block of E. Maddox Ave.

Fraire was in the Tarrant County Jail Monday.

Initially, patrol officers responded to an assault call where the victim was at a local hospital shortly before 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

A 32-year-old woman reported she had been assaulted at her home by her husband who was later identified as Jorge Fraire.

The woman told police there was a “machine gun” in the home on E. Maddox Avenue.

Police went to the home on E. Maddox Ave., but Fraire refused to exit the residence.

A SWAT team arrived and repeatedly ordered Fraire to exit the home. At times, SWAT team members fired several rounds of tear gas into the residence.

Officers closed down the neighborhood as SWAT members attempted to get Fraire out of his home.

But East Maddox Baptist Church, which sat just across the street from the standoff, still held their church service on Sunday morning.

Police were held at bay for more than five hours Sunday before Fraire was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fraire is expected to be charged with assault of a family member, according to jail records.
