1 dead after speeding vehicle strikes pole on Fort Worth street, police say

One person was killed Sunday morning and another was seriously injured in a traffic crash in south Fort Worth, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Alexander Banda, 17, of Houston, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s websebite on Monday. A ruling on his death was pending an autopsy.

Patrol officers responded to the crash shortly before 4:30 a.m. at Hemphill Street and W. Dickson Street.

A vehicle occupied by two men was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and hit a pole, police said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger was trapped in the burning vehicle for a few minutes, but he was rescued and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

Police said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
