Former Fort Worth City Manager Bob Terrell died on Saturday.

On Facebook, Bob Ray Sanders, a former Star-Telegram reporter, an activist and civic leader, said visitation for Terrell will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Spencer Funeral Home, 4900 Miller Avenue.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 2823 N. Houston.

“He was a good, righteous brother who loved his family, this city and especially the black community,” Sanders wrote. “When I spoke with him a few weeks ago, we talked about those days of trials and triumphs, but also about the challenges that were still ahead for the city of Fort Worth. As usual, he challenged me to continue to lead in the city’s efforts on ‘Race and Culture.’”

Terrell was the first African-American city manager in Fort Worth and served from June 1992 until January 2001. Terrell helped establish a gang intervention program and led the city’s establishment of a 911 system.

Several people on Facebook commented about Terrell.

“A great loss of a true friend and mentor,” Marshall S. Hobbs Jr. said. “A great man. Praying for the family. Be Blessed.”
