Slip-slidin’ away: Fort Worth’s Pantherfest will try to set world record

Water slide enthusiasts will get a chance to break a world record at this year’s Pantherfest.

On June 6, a 2,000-foot slip-and-slide will be stretched down North Main Street. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., sliders will be part of the attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled on a water slide.

The last round of tickets goes on sale at 9 a.m. Friday and is expected to sell out quickly. Those interested in buying tickets can go to the Pantherfest website and click on the Slide the City link.

“Fort Worth is the best city in the nation and I’m so excited that the community is coming together to celebrate its birthday in a fun Fort Worth fashion,” Mayor Betsy Price said in a news release. “I can’t wait to see people from across the whole city show up to put Fort Worth in the record books as we slide the city!”

Officials from Guinness World Records will be at the event to see whether the record for the longest distance traveled on a water slide in one hour is broken.

The festival, which will include craft beer, live music and food from Fort Worth, is being produced by the Trinity River Vision Authority.

Shanna Cate, the agency’s programming and development manager, said it wanted “to celebrate Fort Worth’s birthday the right way” with something memorable.

Bands scheduled to play include Chris Watson, Charla Corn, Shotgun Friday, Legacy 4, Chucho, Adrian Garza, Ryan Tharp, Two Ton Folk, DJ John Pollard and Cody Culberson.

The festival will end with a fireworks show over North Main Street.
