Truck driver found shot to death in Fort Worth parking lot

A truck driver was discovered shot to death Thursday morning in a convenience store parking lot in southwest Fort Worth where he had just delivered fuel, police said.

The name of the victim had not been released pending notification of relatives.

Police were searching for suspects in the fatal shooting.

The shooting call from the QuikTrip in the 5700 block of Bryant Irvin Road came into Fort Worth police about 4 a.m., authorities said.

Initially, a store worker called 911 to say that a Groendyke truck driver had arrived at the store and delivered the fuel. An employee noticed that the driver was in the cab of the truck, then went to the cab, shook the driver’s leg, but the victim did not respond, according to preliminary police reports.

Police arrived to find that the driver was dead from a gunshot wound. Detectives say they do not believe it was a self-inflicted wound.

Officials at Groendyke Transport in Fort Worth said the driver was a local night shift driver who had been with the company for about a year.

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to love ones and family members of our driver involved in this morning’s incident,” Groendyke Transport officials said in a Thursday statement. “We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy. This driver has an excellent safety and work record with Groendyke Transport and will be missed.”

Groendyke officials said they were working closely with Fort Worth police in the investigation.

Homicide detectives are investigating the slaying.
