Fort Worth 3-year-old's shooting death is ruled a homicide

The shooting death of a 3-year-old boy in January has been ruled a homicide caused by a shotgun wound to the head, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

The shooting occurred at about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 24 at a house in the 3900 block of Lawnwood Street, in the Riverside neighborhood near the intersection of Beach and First streets. The victim, Jonnie Colon, did not live at the residence.

Family members told Fort Worth police that the boy grabbed a shotgun in the back bedroom and shot himself in the head.

No arrests have been made. Police declined to release more information citing the pending investigation.

Police previously told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA that adults and other children were inside the house at the time of the shooting.
