A domestic dispute turned violent Saturday afternoon near Eagle Mountain Lake.

Fort Worth police say a 37-year-old man was shot in the stomach by his father-in-law at a home in the 6000 block of Deck House Drive.

The man and his wife were “involved in a verbal altercation,” said officer Bradley Perez, a Fort Worth police spokesman. That’s when her father, 47, shot her husband.

The shooting occurred just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said the victim, who has not been identified, was being flown to John Peter Smith Hospital. The man's injuries are considered critical but not life-threatening.

The father-in-law was in police custody late Saturday afternoon, but it remained unclear whether charges would be filed, or what charges he could potentially face, Perez said.

No one else was seriously injured in the incident.

Clarification: An earlier version of this story, based on police call notes, misprepresented the relationship between the man and woman involved in the verbal altercation. They are married, according to Fort Worth police.
