A 27-year-old man accused of stealing a car with a sleeping baby in it over the weekend in Carrollton and then leaving the child on a Farmers Branch doorstep has been arrested and faces charges in the case, police said Thursday.

Carrollton police identified the suspect as Devon Nicholas Sewell of Carrollton who was arrested Monday in Carrollton.

The child was found safe shortly after the Saturday night incident.

Sewell faces a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was in the Lew Sterrert Justice Center in Dallas on Thursday.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and Sewell faces additional charges in the case.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday when the child's father left his vehicle running with the boy in the back seat while he went into a tobacco shop at 2145 N. Josey Lane in Carrollton.

When the father returned, the car and boy were gone.

While driving the vehicle, Sewell is accused of noticing the child in the back seat, pulled over and left the boy still strapped in his car seat at a doorstep in the 2700 block of Fyke Road in Farmers Branch. A resident found the child and called 911.

Through the investigation, detectives developed Sewell as suspect and arrested him Monday. The stolen car was found in Carrollton abandoned a few blocks from Sewell's residence.
