He was saving money to go back to college when a wrong-way driver ended his plans
Moses Elizondo had just left work at Amazon early Sunday and was driving home to his parents.
The 21-year-old Western Hills High School graduate was working to save money to go back to college, his uncle said Monday.
But that dream ended tragically Sunday.
Elizondo was killed in a crash on Loop 820 involving what police said was a wrong-way driver.
The young Fort Worth man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.
"He was such a gentle soul," his uncle, Richard Elizondo said in a Monday email. "He self taught himself to play the guitar and that really impressed me that we had a music talent in our family."
The wrong-way driver was identified as Cesar Romero, 31, who was in custody Monday at a local hospital, police said. He was being treated for injuries he suffered in the accident. Romero was arrested Sunday shortly after the accident and faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter, police said.
Police responded to the major accident call shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Loop 820 in west Fort Worth in the southbound lanes.
Romero, who was driving a 2014 BMW, was northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway when his vehicle hit Elizondo's 2004 Toyota, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
Richard Elizondo said his nephew's car was hit head-on.
His uncle described him as a "kind young man" who had just turned 21 in October and loved to shop at Cabela's.
"He loved fishing and collected fishing poles," Richard Elizondo said. "He really loved his Dad and Mom as well."
