A police officer shot and killed a suspect early Monday who rammed a police car and several other vehicles at an apartment complex, police said.

No officers or residents were injured in the shooting, which occurred in the 3200 block of Finley Road.

Officers responded to a report of a man breaking into vehicle at the apartment complex shortly after 1 a.m. As police arrived, a man jumped into a pickup and rammed a police car and several other vehicles as he tried to flee the scene.

"One officer in fear for his life discharged his duty weapon striking the suspect at least one time," Irving police spokesman Officer James McLellan said in a Monday news release.

The suspect was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he later died.

The name of the suspect had not been released pending notification of relatives.

Police did not release any information on the officer.

The man was the second suspect killed by police in North Texas in as many weeks.

On Tuesday, a Bedford patrol officer shot and killed a suspect who reportedly was grabbing for a weapon.
