Brrr! Wednesday's lows in North Texas were even colder than in the Yukon Territory?

The overnight low temperature at DFW Airport reached 13 degrees early Wednesday, the coldest on record here since Feb. 2, 2011.

It could be worse: In Waco, Jan. 17 is the coldest on record at eight degrees, according to the National Weather Service, and out west in Eastland, it dropped to -2.

On the other hand, it could be better. It was, for example, In Bangor, Maine — where the overnight low was 19 degrees — and in North Pole, Alaska, where the overnight low was 30. (That's not a reading for the Earth's magnetic North Pole. It's a town in central Alaska called North Pole, whose tourist attractions include the Santa Claus House.)

Also warmer than North Texas: parts of The Yukon in Canada. A desolate-sounding place called Old Crow got down to 14 degrees. Overnight lows there last week, though, dropped to -45 last week.

DFW also beat out Reykjavic, Iceland, 23 degrees and Oslo, Norway, 32 in last night's overnight lows.

Luckily for us, by Saturday the high temperature should climb to 70 degrees in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to the National Weather Service.

But in Old Crow, not so much. Their forecast high: -20.
