'He did not deserve that': Woman shot in face in home invasion speaks from hospital

Andrea Warren was the first person an unidentified male encountered after he gained entry into a home in the 3200 block of New York Avenue early Thursday morning.

She was shot in the face in what Fort Worth police believe was a violent home invasion just before 6:30 a.m.

But Warren, 35, was the lucky one. Marcus Newton, the man she called her "better half" in a series of Facebook Live videos in the days after the shooting, was pronounced dead at the scene after police say the intruder made his way to a back bedroom of the residence and shot Newton, 36.

The Tarrant County medical examiner's office listed the cause of Newton's death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

"I just got out of surgery," Warren said in a Facebook Live video shot Friday from John Peter Smith Hospital. "It's unfortunate that my better half isn't here with me. That man did not deserve that at all."

She also said Newton leaves behind three children. The shooting took place in a home just south of East Berry St. and east of Interstate 35 W.

In a later video, Warren, with a bandage wrapped around the middle of her face, said she was shot through the right side of her nose, and that the bullet exited the left side of her nose and fractured her jaw as well. She could, however, still speak.

"For the next six months, I'll be coming to the hospital to get work done," Warren said in a Live video on Sunday.

No arrests have been made in the shooting, and Fort Worth police have not offered a motive. Homicide detectives continue to investigate, said officer Tracy Carter, a department spokesman.
