In North Texas, 2015 rainfall way ahead of last year’s pace

The rain just keeps on coming.

Friday night’s thunderstorms dropped .53 inches of rain at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, which gives North Texas 11.71 inches for the year, including 2.60 inches in April. It took us more than seven months to reach that amount last year.

This year has actually been above normal, and because the spring is typically our wettest season, “there’ll be an opportunity for more thunderstorms for another month or two,” said Matt Bishop, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

And the more rain the better. Tarrant County is still in an extreme drought, and areas to the west remain in an exceptional drought.

Here are some of the rainfall numbers from 2014:

3.28 inches through April 17.

11.57 inches through July.

21.32 inches all year, the 13th driest on record.
