Fire claims victim in Grapevine house fire
Fire authorities on Tuesday continued to investigate a fire that killed one person and destroyed a home on North Dove Road.
The name of the victim had not been released as of Tuesday.
Firefighters recovered the body of the victim about 11:30 a.m. Monday from the home in the 600 block of North Dove Road.
Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday, and found heavy flames coming from the back of the two-story home.
"Firefighters were notified a homeowner was in the home," Assistant Fire Chief John Sherwood said Tuesday. "Firefighters were able to search a couple of rooms, but they had to exit because of high heat and flames."
Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before they knocked down the flames, but they had to wait on heavy equipment to search the structure, because the roof collapsed.
The victim apparently had been on the second story of the home, but that floor collapsed during the fire, officials said.
DFW Airport, Euless, Coppell, Colleyville, Euless, Southlake and Haltom City assisted Grapevine in fighting the blaze.
Fire investigators on Tuesday were still trying to determine where and how the fire started.
