Police are investigating a fatal collision that involved a Fort Worth police vehicle and another fatal collision that happened about the same time on Friday where the vehicle fled the scene.

There is no evidence the two collisions are related, according to authorities.

In one collision, two officers on regular patrol were traveling southbound in the 2700 block of Hemphill Street about 7:10 p.m. when they struck and killed an unidentified Hispanic man, according to a statement from Daniel Segura, Fort Worth police spokesman.

The two officers are expected to continue to work their regular shifts during the investigation, Segura said.

The second fatal collision occurred about 6:30 p.m. Friday, less than six miles northeast of the officer-involved collision.

Officers were called to the 2900 block of East Lancaster Avenue to investigate a hit-and-run, Segura said in an emailed statement. The driver of the vehicle that was involved in the collision left the area without stopping to render aid to the victim, a police report said.

Rigoberto Serrano, 50, of fort Worth, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 7:50 p.m., according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office.
