Fort Worth’s biggest Christmas tree ever arrives, will be lit up Saturday evening

The holiday season officially arrived Monday with the installation of a 65-foot tall Christmas tree in Sundance Square plaza.

The tree, a concolor fir from Big Rapids, Mich., will be decorated this week before being lit on Saturday.

About 10,000 LED lights will adorn the tree — the largest ever to reside in downtown Fort Worth — and will be powered with renewable energy by Green Mountain Energy Co.

The tree-lighting ceremony, complete with live music and a visit from Santa Claus, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the plaza, Main Street between Third and Fourth streets.

It will remain in place through New Year’s Day before being recycled and used as lumber for a Habitat for Humanity house next spring.
