A pedestrian sitting in the middle of Interstate 30 and waving his arm was killed early Saturday when he was hit by several vehicles, police said.

The victim was identified as Darius Thompson, 31, of Dallas, according to officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. He died from multiple blunt force injuries, the medical examiner’s office ruled.

The accident was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of Interstate 30 in the eastbound lanes.

A witness told police she was driving east when she saw Thompson sitting in the center of Interstate 30, holding one arm in the air.

The witness pulled over and waved her arms to warn oncoming traffic, police said.

An oncoming second vehicle did not see her or Thompson and hit Thompson, police said. At that point, Thompson was hit by other vehicles, police said.

The vehicle that first hit Thompson stopped and returned to the scene, police said.

The witness told police that motorists could not have seen Thompson because he was sitting in an unlit area of the highway.
