Add an umbrella to your Halloween costume if trick-or-treating in Fort Worth

No need to dress up as Mother Nature on Halloween.

It looks like she’ll make her own appearance in North Texas.

Forecasters are predicting a 70 percent chance of rain Tuesday night right around the time children will be knocking on doors in search of candy.

“It’s not looking good right now for trick-or-treaters,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Jesse Moore.

No severe thunderstorms are predicted but there will be a 70 percent chance of light to moderate rainfall. Temperatures will also be dropping into the low 50s.

“It’s going to be damp and chilly,” Moore said. “With temperatures falling into the low 50s, it’s not going to be the most pleasant time.”

Parents of trick-or-treaters have been calling the weather service hoping for better news. For now, that doesn’t appear to be in the works.

“It would be nice to adjust the timing a little bit but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” Moore said.

It won’t be any consolation to trick-or-treaters, but North Texas needs the rain.

So far, this month 2.08 inches of rain has fallen at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, which 1.86 inches below normal.

By the time the rain ends early Wednesday morning, most areas should pick up around a half inch of rain.

And then it will rapidly warm up with highs in the upper 70s on Wednesday and to mid 80s on Thursday, which could come close to breaking a record. The all-time high for Nov. 2 is 87 degrees set in 2012.
