Woman shot to death in library parking lot as her child was near her, police say

A woman was shot to death Sunday morning as she sat in her vehicle in a library parking lot and her 6-year-old was nearby, police said.

After the shooting, the gunman, who police say was her ex-husband, returned to his vehicle in the parking lot and fatally shot himself, police said.

The child was not injured, police said.

Authorities had not released the name of the woman or her ex-husband.

Police responded to a shooting related to a domestic dispute shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Southwest Regional Branch Library, 4001 Library Lane.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died, police said.
