We’ve been glued to our phones and televisions since Harvey first struck Texas.

The rains have passed but the need has not and will not. Families and friends are stuck in their homes. Many of us are keeping in touch but cannot get to them. Evacuees are starting to come to our shelter here in Fort Worth.

All of us want to help.

A recovery will take the whole community. It will demand neighbor helping neighbor, across the state and over many months.

You can make a difference. Together we can make a difference.

Monday, the Star-Telegram will host a drop-off day at the Kimbell Art Museum in partnership with three of our local museums: the Kimbell, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, volunteers will be on hand to accept needed items, from diapers to blankets. A full list of requested items is below.

The items will go directly to those in need via Goodwill, first in Fort Worth and then in shelters elsewhere if needed.

All you’ve got to do is drive up to the curb and we’ll accept your items. You don’t have to leave the car.

Two food trucks will join us. Heim BBQ will be offering sandwiches and burritos. Cousins Maine Lobster, headquartered in Houston, will also be on hand. Both trucks will donate a portion of their proceeds to the recovery effort.

We are grateful for you and your commitment to our greater Texas community. We’ll meet you with a smile and a sincere “thank you.”

There are many ways to donate. We know many of you want to help in a material way. Please join us if you’re in town.
