He confronted a neighbor for bullying another man. Now he’s dead
A 59-year-old man faces a murder charge after police say he fatally shot a neighbor who had confronted him over his bullying of another apartment resident, police said.
Timothy Williams was being held in the Mansfield jail Monday in lieu of $250,000.
Witnesses told police that Williams had a reputation of being somewhat of a bully to others at the Autumn Chase apartment complex in the 3500 block of South Riverside Drive, according to homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman.
Sunday, Williams had gotten into a dispute with a resident in his 20s at the complex.
That dispute, Loughman said, prompted 52-year-old Anthony Marshall to confront Williams about 1 p.m. The two men had reportedly had run-ins before, Loughman said.
But during Sunday’s confrontation, Loughman said, Williams pulled out a gun and shot Marshall multiple times.
Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene.
Williams returned to his apartment after the shooting.
“As officers arrived, they heard a shot from inside the apartment,” Loughman said. “I don’t know if he was just mad and fired another round or not.”
Loughman said officers were approaching the apartment when Williams opened the door and walked out carrying a gun. He followed officers’ orders to drop the weapon and was arrested without further incident, the sergeant said.
No arrest in another shooting
An arrest has not yet been made in a separate shooting that occurred Sunday evening in the parking lot of the Como Grocery at 5500 Bonnell Ave.
According to call details, 23-year-old Charles Strickland of Fort Worth had stopped at the store around 6 p.m. to buy cigarettes.
Loughman said Strickland was shot in the torso after getting into an altercation with another man in the parking lot. Strickland was able to get into his car and drive away but crashed in the 5100 block of Diaz Avenue, less than a mile away.
He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where he died from his injuries at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
Police had not identified a suspect in the shooting as of Monday morning.
