Skeletal human remains found at Fort Worth homeless camp

Skeletal human remains were found Saturday as city workers cleared a “tent city” where homeless people were living on the east side of Fort Worth, police reported.

Homicide detectives were investigating the discovery, which was made just before noon, Cpl. Tracey Knight, a police spokeswoman, said Saturday night.

The remains were taken to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s officer, where the identity and cause of death will be determined, she said.

The makeshift camp was roughly in the 1900 block of East Vickery Boulevard at South Riverside Drive. About 50 homeless people were living there on private property. City workers razed the campsite.

Saturday was the annual Cowtown Great American Cleanup, during which volunteers picked up trash and debris throughout the city.
