City crews found an unexpected gem during the annual dredging of the duck pond — a couple’s wedding ring.

City crew began dredging the 1.7 million-gallon pond in Trinity Park a week ago and the ring was discovered on Wednesday.

The ring was returned to the owners who had reported it lost in the pond months ago, said Clint Wyatt, district superintendent for the Parks and Community Services Department.

The couple, who were not identified by the city, sent this report to supervisors:

“A few months ago my wife and I were feeding the ducks at the Trinity Park. My ring flew off into the water while tossing some bread. Mike and Mark helped me recover the ring today. They were so helpful and kind. ... It is refreshing to know that good people are running the show. I greatly appreciate everything they did to help me recover my ring!”

The spring cleaning of the 1.5-acre pond takes about 10 days, Wyatt said. The crews dredge out the silt and debris, clean the drains and check the fountains for any cracks or leaks.

The ducks, in the meantime, continue to hang around the pond and wait for residents to bring them bread — and an occasional piece of jewelry.
