Off-duty Fort Worth police officer shoots man at club

An off-duty Fort Worth police officer shot a man early Sunday who was driving a car toward him in a club’s parking lot.

The officer, F. Conchas, was working security at Club 2011 Escapade, in the 2400 block of South Campus Court, and was investigating a report of people breaking into vehicles in the parking lot about 1:30 a.m., police said in a news release.

Conchas approached a Lincoln four-door sedan as a club employee was trying to stop it from leaving. Two other off-duty officers approached the car from the side.

The suspect, Hector Rene Banderas-Martinez, started driving the Lincoln toward Conchas, who fired his gun “to stop him from running him over with the car,” the release said.

Banderas-Martinez went to Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South with gunshots on his face and lower abdomen. He was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he was treated and released. Then he was taken to jail.

The Lincoln was eventually found in the parking lot of the Ladera Palms Apartments, 2300 Gothic Drive. Investigators found damage on the windshield and front passenger window.

Neither Conchas nor civilians reported any injuries.

Conchas has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
