Firefighters quell 2-alarm fire at Fort Worth scrap metal business
Firefighters quickly put down a two-alarm blaze that had engulfed three work site trailers at a scrap metal yard Saturday afternoon in north Fort Worth, according to a fire official and an incident report.
The Fort Worth Fire Department received the call about 1:20 p.m. and responded with more than a dozen fire trucks and other apparatus to J&E Scrap Metal at 1301 N.E. 28th St., said Lt. Gregg Russell, a Fire Department spokesman.
He said it wasn’t clear whether the trailers were useable or just scrap.
“They were full of trash,” Russell said, adding that two were destroyed and the third was heavily damaged. He said that the cause of the fire, which was quelled within 20 minutes, was unknown, and that there were no injuries.
“Anytime we get calls [to a scrap yard], we send more companies because they can quickly get out of control,” Russell said.
Police were notified to assist on scene for traffic control, the incident report said.
